In the 4th century B.C., the Roman citizen Cincinnatus was called upon to serve Rome as dictator during a conflict with a neighboring country. Cincinnatus left his life as a farmer—leaving his own family in peril—to serve his country. When the conflict was resolved, Cincinnatus relinquished his authority to return to his family and once again lead the quiet life of a farmer. These same principles of selfless service and humility are the foundation on which Cincinnati was built.
